Very nearly resembling the canary, but smaller in size, is the Serin (Serinus hortulanus), a species which not long since was very local in Europe, and chiefly known to inhabit the countries bordering on the Mediterranean.
The male serin was also still around, but it too made only brief and erratic visits to the Obs garden in the morning.
The first serin of the holiday was here and others were heard singing as we drove home.
The latter site also produced a typically brief serin in the morning.
The views we got allowed us to see the clear facial and rump color differences from the Arabian Serin.
