A variety called purpurascens (sometimes Ae. discolor) has much showier flowers, larger, and of a reddish tint.
In the single-flowered kind the blossoms have a dark purple centre, but in the double (S. procumbens fl.-pl.), which is by far the showier, they are a bright yellow.
As mentioned previously, the clear advantage of the apron tankini is that it is a showier, yet more camouflaging version of the average tankini.
