The cathedral of St Januarius, occupying the site of temples of Apollo and Neptune, and still containing some of their original granite columns, was designed by Nicola Pisano, and erected between 1272 and 1316.
On the 10th of September 1849 the " Neptune " arrived in Simon's Bay.
One of them, Kubera, the god of wealth, is a new figure; whilst another, Varuna, the most spiritual and ethical of Vedic deities - the king of the gods and the universe; the nightly, star-spangled firmament - has become the Indian Neptune, the god of waters.

When the home government became aware of the state of affairs orders were sent directing the " Neptune " to proceed to Tasmania, and it did so after having been in Simon's Bay for five months.
