It is picturesquely situated on an eminence, two sides of which are touched by the river Nene, which here makes a deep bend.
It lies on the declivity of a hill near the junction of the Ise with the Nene, in a pleasant well-wooded district.
It is pleasantly situated on high ground above the south bank of the river Nene.
Through the sandbanks which form its bed there are two main channels into deep water; one, Boston Deeps, is kept open by the waters of the Witham and Welland; the other, Lynn Deeps, gives passage to those of the Nene and the Great Ouse.
It lies in the midst of the flat fen country, on the old course of the river Nene.
