With this exception the whole plant is covered with a thick, felt-like coating of pale brownish tomentum.
The leaves, which are broadly lanceolate, are about 9 inches in length and 2 1/2 inches broad, dark green above, and felted with dimcolored tomentum below.
The plant has thin wiry stems, and every part is covered with a cobweb-like tomentum.
The various forms may roughly be divided into two groups, the one with foliage that is silvery beneath, the other having the under side of the leaf covered more or less with a reddish tomentum.
Rhododendron Lanatum - The young branches, both surfaces of the leaves, and the petioles are covered with a dull white or tawny tomentum; the sulphur-yellow flowers are 2 inches across.
